Recommended Gear for Hill Walking
- Waterproof walking boots (Gore-Tex is best)
- Waterproof jacket (Gore-Tex)
- Waterproof trousers (Gore-Tex)
- Walking poles
- Rucksack
- Hat & Gloves
- Orange plastic survival bag
- Foil Blanket
- Hi-Vis vest
- Spare clothes in waterproof bag
- Food & drink (at least 2 litres of water in warm weather)
- Whistle (plastic)
- Sun glasses, sun cream, sun hat
- Gaiters (optional)
- Clothing (several light layers is best)
Howth Walk Tuesday 18th August
Due to high passenger numbers using the Belfast-Dublin train service, it is advisable to book your seat for both the outgoing and return journeys well in advance.
The train will leave Newry at 8.53 a.m. arriving at Connolly Station at 10.13 a.m.
All grades will start walks around 11.20 a.m. T walk will take approximately 3hrs; other grades around 4 hrs.
Anyone staying in Howth for a meal would need to take this into consideration before booking return journey from Connolly Station.
If the walk needs to be changed due to poor weather the train booking can be cancelled online.
